  7.     Grunge may be all the rage from rock clubs to runways, but
  8. SOUL ASYLUM, Minnesota's lovable, gritty garage band, happened
  9. to be there first. For nearly 10 years, the foursome has churned
  10. out smart rock in the tattered garb de rigueur for the trendy
  11. bands of the Seattle sound. "They've co-opted our fashion
  12. sense," jokes front man Dave Pirner. Yes, but SA's still a
  13. standout. Critically lauded, their latest album, Grave Dancers
  14. Union, has led the band to the top of two charts. Celebrity --
  15. at a screechy volume -- isn't far off.
